How Can I Serve

There are numerous opportunities to serve at Bethany Church of Somerset County including serving as a:
 
• lay leader to assist the pastor with church services,
• delegate to the Global Methodist Annual Conference,
• trustee to oversee the care of our church building and grounds,
• teacher for Sunday School classes and Bible studies,
• member of the pastor parish relations committee, and
• door greeter, choir member, event planner, etc.
 
“If it is serving, then serve, if it is teaching, then teach. Never be lacking in zeal,
but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:7, 11 NIV)
 
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.” (Ephesians 6:7 NIV)

Mission Tithing

In accordance with scripture, Bethany Church of Somerset County strongly believes in tithing ten percent (10%) of the tithes and offerings we receive to directly support the following missions and charities:
 
• Love in Action

• Meals on Wheels
• Next Step Center
• North Star Youth Outreach
• Ramps R Us of Somerset County
• Salvation Army
• SAM Van
• Somerset County Mobile Food Bank

Mission Opportunities

Numerous members of Bethany Church of Somerset County indirectly support the charitable organizations described below by serving on their board of directors, providing financial support and/or volunteering their time and labor.

Ramps R US of Somerset County

Ramps R Us of Somerset County builds handicap ramps for individuals who need assistance getting in and out of their home but cannot afford to have a ramp built. Numerous members of Bethany Church of Somerset County as well as other local churches provide the labor to build the ramps. Materials are purchased through donations received from friends and families of the ramp recipients and from other local charities, clubs and churches. Somerset County Mobile Food Bank

Somerset County Mobile Food Bank distributes free food to bring fresh produce, frozen meats, dry goods and other items to low income households in Somerset County. The Somerset County Mobile Food Bank is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization managed and operated primarily by volunteers to serve the communities of Berlin, Boswell, Central City, Confluence, Davidsville/Hollsopple, Meyersdale, Rockwood, Somerset and Windber. Next Step Center

The Next Step Center provides temporary housing for Somerset County families and individuals, enabling them to work toward resolving issues that led to their homelessness. The Next Step Center policy is to offer a helping hand, not a hand-out. Several members of Bethany Church of Somerset County serve as board members and/or volunteer at the center.  Love in Action

Love in Action, Inc. is a Guatemala based mission operated by pastors Vinicio (Vinny) and Fabiola (Fabi) Samayoa in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala (also known by its Mayan name Xela). Vinny and Fabi had careers in banking and received a calling from God to become pastors. Their calling has led them to their current mission of helping the Mayan Indians who have very little food, clothing, shelter, etc. Vinny and Fabi started their mission in April 2018 and in November 2019 their Guatemalan charitable organization, Amor en Accion (Love in Action), was officially approved by the Guatemalan government. Bethany Church of Somerset County sponsors Love in Action through Overflowing Love, Inc., a 501c3 charity.
